"Sap" by Alice in Chains
I love grunge, but Alice in Chains has never held my attention for more than a couple of tracks before I flip over to something more punk and less metal. For that reason, I only have one of their EPs, and I haven't listened to it more than a few times. I found "Sap" for fifty cents at a Salvation Army when I was looking for cardigans - not discs - and so I think I forget that I have it sometimes.
With that said, I like it more than I think I will every time I hear it. "Got Me Wrong" is one of my favorite AiC tracks, and "Right Turn," performed by "Alice MudGarden," is a really fun song to hear for anyone who makes a habit of worshiping the collaborative efforts of grunge legends; the combination of Chris Cornell's howling, Mark Arm's yelling, and Jerry Cantrell / Layne Staley's harmonizing moans make for one of the most haunting songs in existence. Alice in Chains has an eerie, alt-country/folk edge to their music that I never remember is there, and when I hear it, I'm always impressed. "Sap" deserves more listens than I've given it - and the rest of the band's discography does, too.
