"God of Love" by Bad Brains
Sometime last year, I decided that I needed to broaden my tastes. I'm a DC native and so I assumed that Bad Brains were therefore the way to go. Expecting some really brutal hardcore, I popped this disc in. To my surprise, I found that Bad Brains had converted to Christianity and were now making gospel-hardcore. Well, cool. Unexpected, but seriously cool. I had expected to be corrupted by some uber-edgy punk, however, and this did not fit the bill. More importantly, their sound never struck me as that compelling or fun, lyrics aside. So much for broadening my tastes -"God of Love" hasn't seen more than a couple of plays since I first tried it, though there are a few tracks that I really like, tracks I come back to whenever I try to get through the whole thing.
Interestingly, Wikipedia says that this album was out of print from 2002 to 2011, so it's a rarity, in the least rare sense of the word. Truly, it's a four dollar disc that I don't play much. But it's a rareish one, so that's something.
