"10 Minute Warning" by 10 Minute Warning
I stumbled upon this lovely disc around a year ago at my favorite record exchange. I wasn't especially familiar with the band, but I knew a grunge rarity when I saw it. Or I thought I did. It turns out that you can buy this album used for seven dollars on Amazon, which means it isn't so rare. In my defense, I snagged it for $6.49. It was a total steal.
The darkly explosive, molten lava feel of 10 Minute Warning's punk/metal hybrid is fun for a while, but the album has lost some of its luster for me since I first bought it and I don't think I've given this more than a listen or two in several months. Playing it again tonight, I'm surprised by how much I like it. 10 Minute Warning were one of those early Seattle bands that made the shift from shitty garage hardcore to more sophisticated proto-grunge by saying "no" to melody and "yes" to dissonance, which can either be horrible or fascinating. This album is fascinating.
